Description: The Enchanters, a mixed choral group, will be performing at the Loma Colorado Main Library (Rio Rancho Public Library) on Thursday evening, May, from 6:30 – 7:45 pm. The 9 men and 8 women will sing a variety of songs, including jazz, gospel and showtunes.

For four decades, the talented group has been entertaining audiences. Their predecessor was The Bel Cantos, a group that was founded in the 1950’s by Norman Russell Bell. In the 1960s, its name was changed to The Enchanters. Although the selection of works performed by the Enchanters has evolved somewhat from that of the Bel Cantos, it is still is rooted in that choral tradition.

The ensemble’s roster has varied over the years, but several members have been singing with the chorus for many years. Not all the members perform at each concert; the ensemble on May 8 will consist of 4 basses, 3 tenors, 4 altos and 6 sopranos. Frank Johnson is the chorus’s current director and will provide the piano accompaniment for this concert.

To maintain a repertoire of songs and excellence in performance, the group has weekly 2 hour rehearsals during its active season, which is from early September to the end of May. The group does accept new members. Anyone wishing to audition can contact Marge Velasquez at (505) 892-0754.
