Spend half-days or full days immersed in activities that explore the arts and sciences. Classes offered in the Explora Inquiry Labs for 5- to 15-year-olds; some classes are Spanish/English bilingual.

General Information
Morning Programs 9am to 12pm
Morning programs begin at 9:00am and end at noon. Students may be dropped off between 8:45am and 9:00am, and must be picked up no later than 12:15pm. Students may bring a morning snack, and Explora will provide a drink.
Afternoon Programs 1pm to 4pm
Afternoon classes begin at 1:00pm and end at 4:00pm. Students may be dropped off between 12:45pm and 1:00pm, and must be picked up no later than 4:15pm. Students may bring an afternoon snack, and Explora will provide a drink.
Spending the Day
For students attending a full day of programs, please bring a cold sack lunch and a drink, along with morning and afternoon snacks. Explora will provide drinks during snack times. Students can enjoy lunch and exhibit exploration from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Parents are responsible for dispensing any medication.

$150 per class for non-members

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be received five (5) business days prior to the scheduled class date. A refund will be issued for the total amount, minus a 15% administration fee.
Cancellations received fewer than five business days prior to the program will not be refunded for any reason. If Explora cancels a program, the full fee will be refunded.

Become a kitchen chemist. Experiment with household materials, investigate reactions in a variety of foods, make ice cream, and more.

Design buildings using recycled materials, motors, and computer programmable devices called PICO crickets. Build structures that can interact with motion, sound, and light using sensors.

Raceways and Roadways
Test different shapes to see which ones make the best wheels, investigate different surfaces as roadways, and make a roller coaster.
5-6 years
Branch Out
Take a closer look at the parts of a plant and try your hand at leaf chromatography, seed and plant dissection, sponge gardens, and more..
7-9 years
Fantastic Fluids
Learn how to keep water from pouring out of a bottle, even when you turn it upside down! You’ll also make Cartesian divers, explore siphons, make a lava lamp, and more.
10-12 years
Blast Off
Explore inertia, action/reaction, thrust and propulsion, and use aerodynamics to design a water-powered rocket that soars.

Explore a variety of performance media in the Explora Theater, including puppetry, circus skills, storytelling, and ensemble work.
7-9 years
Kaleidoscope Math
Explore polygons, angles, and symmetry as you design and build a variety of kaleidoscopes.
7-9 years
Express Yourself Naturally
Explore art and nature as you hike, sketch, take photos, and illustrate field notes. Camp will be held at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.*
10-12 years
Testing the Waters
Test the water quality of the Rio Grande, build aquifer models, and experiment with watersheds. Camp will be held at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.*

Can you see or touch sound? Experience how sounds make rubber bands vibrate, sand move, and tuning forks hum.

River Ways

Movin’ and Groovin’
Stomp your way through the summer! Explore the rhythmic link between dance and music and create your own dance routines.
10-12 years
Make Your Mark
Have you always wanted to make your own T-shirts and posters? Explore silkscreen printing, stencils and photo-exposure methods, then design your own T-shirt to take home.

Taking Flight
Investigate how air interacts with materials that float and fly. Experiment with wind tubes, float balloons, and make gliding toys and kites.
7-9 years
Windy 500
Design a wind-powered car that goes the distance! Use cardboard, tubes, plastic sheets and more to build your own car, and test variables to refine your design.
10-12 years
Spring it Up, Stretch it Out
Uncover the fascinating world of oscillating springs and elastic stretches. Experiment with the rhythms of bouncing springs, use bed springs to weigh mystery objects, and more.
13-15 years
Discovering Yoga
Use your powerful body to explore your senses and body systems through movement.

Use scales, measuring cups, and droppers to measure the ingredients for your own snack, weigh some wacky objects, and find out exactly how tall you are.

Work with pegboards, straws, elastics and other materials to design and construct your own pinball game. Build pins, bumpers, traps, guardrails, and more.
10-12 years
Magician’s Secrets
Is it magic? No, it’s science! Learn how to make things disappear, re-appear, change colors and more. Then, amaze your family and friends with a performance in the Explora Theater.

Science of Stuff
Harden metals, make an alloy, build a bulb, cast resin, make foamy creations and more while you use basic science to examine and discover the “stuff” around you.

Did you know there’s a skill in telling a good joke? It requires timing, projection, and the right joke. Practice your comedic skills and delivery in the Explora Theater.

Crazy Cars
Become a speed demon as you experiment with rubber band-powered, balloon-powered, and mousetrap-powered cars.
