We're hosting the Tapestry of Homeschool survey:
http://s-akxqb-40779.sgizmo.com/
in an effort to counteract the modern day mythology of homeschooling.
There are a lot of opinions out there about what homeschoolers want,
who homeschoolers are, and how homeschoolers teach and learn.
Unfortunately, many of those opinions come from people who don't
homeschool, or have a particular interest in portraying homeschoolers
a certain way.
Learning is for Everyone thinks it's time homeschoolers spoke for
themselves, instead of for government statistical surveys, or for the
private agendas of special interest groups. Tapestry of Homeschool
was put together by homeschoolers, for homeschoolers. Nearly 100
home educators from eight states provided input and suggestions for
this survey.
Homeschoolers comprise a diverse and multifaceted community. Getting
a better picture of who we are can help us support one another
better, as well as better protect our collective right to direct our
children's learning.
Results of this survey will be publicly available, but not publicly
broadcast. No personal information will be collected, nor will any
information be sold or used for commercial purposes by Learning is
for Everyone, Inc.
Hard (paper) copies of the survey are available on request for
distribution at a local level by local and state homeschool groups.
You may return the surveys to us (email info@learningis4eve ryone.org
for address) for inclusion in final results, or use them to get a
better understanding of homeschooling in your area.
The survey is long -- there are 80 questions -- but many are optional
fill-ins. And we're asking questions others looking at homeschooling
haven't been asking, about things we think will provide a far more
accurate look at who we are and what's important to us. It'll remain
online through the summer.
I hope you'll add your threads to the Tapestry of Homeschool, and
encourage others to, as well. Email info @learningis4everyon e.org if
you have questions or thoughts.
