Los Alamos Historical Society Lecture Series 2007-2008



The Los Alamos Historical Society is pleased to announce its lineup for the 2007-2008 Los Alamos National Bank-sponsored Lecture Series. Speakers this year will range from World War II topics to the history of high tech in New Mexico and Ashley Pond's first ranch school.

All lectures are the second Tuesday of the month (except December) at 7:30 PM in the Pajarito Room of Fuller Lodge. After a question and answer session, light refreshments are served. Topical books are available when appropriate.
World War II in the Pacific
Bill Bradley, Sept. 11

Bill Bradley kicks off the lecture series with a fascinating look at World War II history. Bill service in the military during World War II and has done extensive research on naval warfare in the Pacific. He is an at-large member of the Los Alamos Historical Society Board of Directors and retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory.
The History of High Tech in NM
Sherry Robinson, Nov. 13

Sherry RobinsonFew know that the first personal computer was developed in Albuquerque by a tinkerer named Ed Roberts. Or that Bill Gates and Paul Allen started Microsoft here. New Mexico has been the scene of many firsts in technology. This includes a pioneering laser program at Kirtland Air Force Base, early rocket studies in Roswell, and invention of the clean-room at Sandia. Sherry Robinson, an award-winning journalist, will share these stories and more.

The Witches of Abiquiu
Malcolm Ebright, Oct. 9

Witches of Abiquiu book cover Just in time for Halloween, Mr. Ebright joins us to discuss his book about a little-known witchcraft trial that took place in New Mexico in the mid-1700s.
Fuller Lodge Open House

Ashley Pond's first ranch schoolIn January, David Kammer will tell about "Albuquerque: From Railroad Depot to Crossroads."

The February speaker, Charlie Carrillo, will explore the connections between Hispanic and Pueblo cultures in "Saints of the Pueblos."

Sharon Snyder will tell about Ashley Pond's first ranch school in March.

William Weiss explains why he believes "The Rosenbergs: Not Guilty After All These Years" at the April lecture.

Renowned historian Tom Chavez will finish off the year at our Annual Meeting and Ice Cream Social in May with "Stories of a Gadfly in the Historical World That is New Mexico."
