Resource: Spanish Champs Schedule and Sale

My apologies I could not get everything from the original email cut and paste.--Tabbi

Greetings,

We are kicking off our biggest schedule of classes this fall, and expanding to some new areas. I hope the new times and locations help every family find a class that will fit their schedule.

I am excited to be included in the "Not Back to School" homeschool fair on August 17th in Rio Rancho, and to be speaking about language learning strategies on August 28th.

At the very bottom of this newsletter there is a link titled "Please forward this newsletter to a friend." Please take 30 seconds and forward it on to other families that are interested in giving their children the gift of a second language - Thanks!

Learning Tip: Reward and praise your child's efforts
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the KEY factors that determines a child's success in learning Spanish is their motivation. Encourage your child to use Spanish, and when they do, make sure to praise them for it. Even if your Spanish is weak, use some Spanish around your children. If they see you trying your children will be more willing to try, especially if you can make a game out of it. When I drive around with my kids, we often will have little "how do you say" contests. How do you say cat, milk, shoes..., can you say it before your mother? I then say words in Spanish, and see which child can say the word in English first. You may find that your children are retaining more Spanish than you are. Have them quiz you, they get a kick out of this, and it helps both parents and children learn.
Using appropriate rewards can help keep their motivation high after they have put in a good effort. Some suggestions for rewards: stay up a few minute longer one night, play a board game they like, or buy a new learning resource they would enjoy. For big milestones, like the end of the semester, an ice cream cone is always a winner. What is important is that the rewards are age appropriate, and that they help motivate them.
Make sure to tell your kids that you are proud of their effort and progress.
Spanish Champs for Homeschoolers ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our family Spanish programs include both group classes and activities that are done at home between classes. This is popular with a number of homeschool families. Since we are continually improving and expanding our programs, we are developing a manual that include a more structured program for home use that has more activity options. The manual will be available to purchase for any family in Spanish Champs. We expect to have a draft available by late September.
Are you in a homeschool group or co-op? If you have a group of six or more families, we will work with you to offer a Spanish Champs program around your schedule at no additional cost. Call Tim at 235-0882 to discuss starting your own group.
Did you know that Spanish Champs offers a two year sequence that includes "immersion style" summer camps? We have three levels of intensive Summer Camps. When coupled together, the camps and the "school year" family Spanish programs accelerate learning and reinforce one another. The ideal two-year sequence includes the following options:
a) Camp 1: Family Spanish Year 1: Camp 2: Family Year 2: Camp 3.
b) Family Spanish Year 1: Camp 1 & Camp 2: Family Year 2: Camp 3.
