The deadline date for the Asthma Awareness Month poster and mascot contests for youth is rapidly approaching. Please pass along this information. We really could use some homeschool representation!!!!!! This is a great opportunity. Don't let this one pass you by.

Asthma Awareness Mascot Contest!
We need a mascot for asthma awareness raising efforts across the State of New Mexico and we want your help!
Follow these guidelines for the mascot contest, and you could win …
PARTICIPANTS:
New Mexican Youth (Grades 9-12)
Up to 8 individuals from the same organization may work on a mascot and enter as a team.
THEME: The mascot should represent the positive aspects of asthma. These aspects include: good asthma control &
management, avoiding triggers, physical activity &asthma, and medication adherence.
CONTEST GUIDELINES:
1. All entries must be received at the address listed below by no later than April 25, 2007.
2. Contest entries will be judged by current Asthma Awareness Planning Committee Members and/or selected
designees.
3. The winning entry will receive the following:
Interact with Orbit (Albuquerque Isotopes mascot) during the game
Organization: Special Gift Pack
Each Team Member:Gift certificates and/ or prizes from area businesses, and a ticket to the game
4. All entries will become the property of Asthma Allies, LLC to be used by Asthma Awareness Month Planning
Committee Member organizations and cannot be returned to entrants. They will be displayed at the
Albuquerque Isotopes game on May 12, 2007. The organization name, first names of participants, and city
will be posted along with all entries.
5. Contest winners will be announced on May 1, 2007. Winners will be contacted both by phone and by email.
6. The winning entry will be used as the Asthma Awareness mascot.
7. All entries must be submitted with the attached, completed registration form. Please mail all entries to:

MASCOT GUIDELINES:
1. The mascot should not be offensive to any group. It should not be anything ethnic or racial
(e.g. Native American).
2. Expenses for construction should not be more than $500.00. Receipts for purchases should be
kept to validate this.
3. Toxic or allergenic substances (animal hair, feathers) may not be used in the construction of
the mascot. Mascot should be non-restrictive.
4. The mascot must be designed and constructed by a team of no more than 8 high school
students. It cannot be professionally made.
5. The mascot may not be any existing mascot (e.g. Lobo, Wheezy, Bronchie, Puff). The work
should be the original creation of the team.
LABELING: The participant’s organization name and contact information must be on the inside of the mascot entry.
DEADLINE: Entry must be RECEIVED no later than April 25, 2007

3. Only non-toxic or non-allergenic media may not be used.
4. The poster must be original and completely constructed by the student.
5. The poster can include photos and multimedia (3-D).
LABELING:
The name and contact information of the entrant must be on the top, left-hand corner of the
BACK of the submission. Submissions will NOT be returned and may be used in other asthma awareness
raising efforts.
