From a local homeschooling mom, it does look like there is a small annual fee if you want to check out new movies but it could help save money if someone had a concern about a movie and there are a ton of ratings about older movies on here for free :

This is a great site with specific information about contents that might be objectionable. It put a stop to our movie plans today, but helped us avoid some unhappy surprises! ; )
