X PRIZE Cup 2007 Regional Coordinating Committee

The X PRIZE Foundation is kicking into full gear with the 2007 Wirefly X PRIZE Cup. To help us better organize efforts in the region we are forming a Regional Coordinating Committee. A large portion of this committee's goals focus on Education. The committee will have regular meetings twice a month on average. It will be arranged in 4 groups by the following topics/goals:

- Contributions & Sponsorships
Lead: Kathy Turkell & Jill Klann – past crew captains
Goals:
1) Promote "Sponsor a School" campaign to regional businesses and organizations
2) Develop other sponsorship campaigns to support donations on all levels
3) Assist in securing the required in-kind contributions for the 2007 event.

- Education
Lead: Laura Lomas – NM SEMAA Director
Goals:
1) Assist the X PRIZE team in creating proper materials and activities for our K-12 education day program.
2) Coordinate contact to and from teachers in the area about the XPC program and create a strong sense of ownership and community amongst the regions educators.
3) Work with the public schools to enlist 10,000 students in the WXPC Education Day program.

- Volunteers
Lead: TBD
Goals:
1) Assist the X PRIZE team in organizing a volunteer crew with the proper credentials to fill all needs before and during the event.
2) Create a sense of community amongst the volunteer crew through meetings and events.
3) Enlist 300 qualified volunteers for the 2007 event.

- Outreach & Promotions
Lead: Beth Close & James Webb – past crew captains
Goals:
1) Organize a grassroots outreach campaign through a series of presentations.
2) Organize an X PRIZE presence at appropriate regional events to promote the Cup.
3) Plan and Distribute appropriate marketing materials to businesses and community groups where they will have the most impact.
4) Assist in distributing X PRIZE Cup merchandise to regional vendors

We need excited volunteers to become members of this committee and work with us on a semi-regular basis to ensure that this event has the biggest impact and benefit for our region yet. Many of you brought students out to the X PRIZE Cup in 2006. This committee will help ensure that the 2007 materials and activities are several major steps better than what we did last year. The attached file provides an outline of our educational plans for 2007.

Volunteers with any level of time commitment are invited to join us in this effort; however, individuals able to dedicate a couple hours each week will be an essential asset. This will be a fun, exciting, and rewarding way to help bring the new aerospace industries to our region for the benefit of everyone (especially our children, and students). Please reply to Joshua Neubert ( Joshua@xprize.org) with your name, contact information, and availability if you are interested in participating in our Regional Coordinating Committee.

Thank you all for your volunteer commitment to the X PRIZE Foundation, for bringing students to participate in the X PRIZE Cup education programs, and for supporting this new industry in its infancy. It is only with your help that we ARE able to create radical breakthroughs for the benefit of us all.

Joshua Neubert
