Albuquerque: Stories from Far Away Islands, Deep Forests and Magical Gardens

"Stories from Far Away Islands, Deep Forests and Magical Gardens.

A princess who marries a wolf, an old hag who steals the sun and the moon, the first singer of stories, a magic rosemary plant, sea-ladies, dragons, air daughters …

These are some of the characters you will meet in our performances. We tell these folktales, myths and ballads with words, movement, masks, song and music.

We have stories for the very young to the very old, and we would love to tell you some of these tales.

In our performances we use a mix of word, movement, mask, dance, and live music to make the stories from ancient times come alive for the audience. Scott creates original music for each story inspired by the characters and the background of the story or makes arrangements of the traditional ballads and Johanna uses her skills from training in both western and East Indian dance and mime to portray the heroes and heroines and their adventures." -Scott and Johanna Hongell-Darsee

Doesn't that sound like fun!

Albuquerque Home Learners is opening this event, at 10 a.m. on April 20th in the dance hall at Heights Community Center, to all homeschoolers.

Heights Community Center (823 Buena Vista S.E.—very close to UNM) has an amazing dance hall with a stage in the oldest community center in Albuquerque. It was built in the late 1930's and one can almost hear the memories of the past while standing in that room.

The performance will be geared for PreK(ages 3 -5) to Grade 3 (ages 7-8), but all ages are welcome.

The more people that come, the less it will be per person. 2 and under are free, all others must pay for the event. The total cost is $250.00. If we get 50 paying attendees, then it will only be $5 per person. But, there is room for much more than 50, so we could bring it down even lower.

The RSVP deadline is Monday, April 9th, that is two weeks from today (March 26th). At that time we will count the total paying number and divide it into the $250 to determine the amount that must be paid by each paying attendee. Do not RSVP unless you are committing to pay. If you RSVP, you will have to pay, even if you later learn you can't attend the event.

Payments must be received by Monday, April 16th. Checks should be made payable to Kari Mackay and mailed to 29 B Northview Trail; Edgewood, NM 87015. If your payment is not received by Monday, April 16th your name will not be on the list for admission.

If you are interested in learning more about this performing team, you can visit their website http://johanna.itgo.com.

To RSVP, please reply to the thread at http://www.abqhomelearners.org/view_topic.php?id=1187&forum_id=29. Include your name, the total number in your group, and the total number that are over the age of 2.

Please feel free to pass this information on to other homeschoolers.
