MANGA ART SHOW
The Rio Rancho Public Library and the National Arts Honor Society of Rio Rancho High School will be presenting the Manga Expo, a teen art show, beginning March 29. This show will feature the work of local teen artists, whose pens and brushes have been influenced by manga – the Japanese word for comics, and a fiercely popular genre right now at libraries and bookstores across the nation. With fan art as well as original creations available for purchase through a silent auction, the show is a must-see for all manga fanatics.
The opening gala celebration for the Manga Expo will take place Saturday, March 29, from 11am-4pm in the Loma Colorado Main Library auditorium. Artists, their families, friends and the public are invited to kick off a month of manga-related fun. To start with, the opening gala will be a cosplay event! Come dressed up as your favorite manga or anime character and mingle with other cosplayers while indulging in Japanese snacks and listening to J-pop. The Manga Expo art installation will then be on display for the following five weeks, during which the library will screen anime films once a week and hold a manga book-swap.
Teen artists that are still interested in submitting artwork to the show can do so until March 22nd. We will accept drawings, paintings, and 3D pieces such as comic books and sculpture. Surprise us! Pieces can be sold, if desired, in a silent auction; a portion of the sale will go towards purchasing more manga for the teen collection at the library. Artwork can be turned in the Ms. Lea at Rio Rancho High School or to the librarian in the Twilight Zone – teen scene at the Loma Colorado Main Library, 755 Loma Colorado Dr NE. For more information, contact Deimosa Webber-Bey, teen librarian, (505) 891-5013 x3031.
