Lepidopterist Eric Matzer is currently conducting a study of moth species at Oliver Lee State Park. Moths are often over looked due to their somber colors and nocturnal habits. They represent one of the largest groups of insects utilizing the park's resources and are an important part of the desert food chain.

Come discover the natural, cultural, and historical resources of Oliver Lee Memorial State Park at this annual event and learn how the natural resources of Dog Canyon have enabled human occupation for 10,000 years. A full schedule of events will be announced.

Notes:
Entomologist Greg Forbes will present arachnids and arthropods from the NMSU collection. A few of these animals are important medical species becouse of the toxicity of their venom. Most arthropods are harmless, even though they envoke a fear reaction in some of us. The museum cases will allow attendees to get close up and falmiliar with these sometimes reclusive bugs common throughout the Chihuahuan Desert. Meet at the Group Shelter.
