Rio Rancho: February Teen Events @ the Library

COMIC BOOK WORKSHOP AT THE LIBRARY

On Saturday, February 23 there will be a comic book workshop for teen artists at the Rio Rancho Public Library from 2-5pm. Members of 7000BC will lead a workshop on sequential art at the Loma Colorado Main Library Branch, 755 Loma Colorado Drive NE. 7000 BC is a Northern New Mexico-based organization providing opportunities for comics writers and artists to develop their personal styles and storytelling "voices," while promoting an understanding of the cultural significance of comic art through seminars and workshops. This program is especially useful for teen artists planning to submit pieces to the library’s Manga Expo in April 2008. There is limited space; registration is required. Sign up by calling or stopping by The Twilight Zone - Teen Scene, 891-5013 x3042. For more information on 7000BC visit their website, www.7000bc.org.

MANGA ARTISTS NEEDED!

The Rio Rancho Public Library and the National Arts Honor Society of Rio Rancho High School are currently accepting submissions of manga artwork for the upcoming teen art show, Manga Expo 2008. Teens are encouraged to submit drawings, paintings, and 3D pieces such as comic books and sculpture. Surprise us! Manga Expo 2008 will be on display in the Loma Colorado Main Library auditorium during April. Lots of fun events are planned for teens during this upcoming manga-month at the library, such as cosplay at the opening gala on March 29, an anime film series, and a manga book-swap. Pieces can be sold, if desired, in a silent auction; a portion of the sale will go towards purchasing more manga for the teen collection at the library. Artwork can be turned in until March 15th to Ms. Lea in the Fine Arts Department at Rio Rancho High School or the librarian in the Twilight Zone – Teen Scene at the Loma Colorado library branch, 755 Loma Colorado Drive NE. For more information call the teen librarian, 891-5013 x3031.

TEEN MARDI GRAS!

The Rio Rancho Public Library will host Mardi Gras party for teens on February 21, from 6pm-7:30pm in the library’s auditorium. This is the chance to dress up like Bella & Edward (and/or Jacob), Artemis Fowl, Hermione & Ron... or how about the Clique? Let your imagination, and your favorite book, help you decide what costume to wear. Pictures will be taken in character at the party, then displayed in the library until the end of February while the public votes for who masqueraded the best. The winning picture will be published in the Rio Rancho Journal and made into a READ poster. Important - bring a copy of the book that inspired you for the picture! Live music during the party will be performed by Rio Rancho High School Jazz Band I, directed by Kurt Schmidt.
