Albuquerque: Around the World Club

Hi, All!
>
> The Around the World Club is back this semester, meeting the 3rd
Friday
> of each month, from 1-3pm! What is it, you ask?
>
> Imagine a science fair format, except the kids are presenting
whatever
> culture they've been studying (Egypt? Ancient Aztec? Modern
Cuba?).
> It's both a fun chance to learn about other cultures and to
practice
> their own presentation skills. It's free, fun, and we have young
grade
> schoolers through midhigh youth presenting so far! (High schoolers
are
> welcome; We just haven't had any signup yet!)
>
> Whether or not your kids want to have presentation, come on down
to the
> Manzano Mesa Multigeneration Community Center just south of
Central and
> Eubank next Friday afternoon (Feb 15) to browse the tables, enjoy
some
> presentations, and sample food from around the world. At the door,
the
> kids get a free "passport" and as they learn about each culture,
their
> passport gets "stamped" at that table.
>
> If you want to present a culture, we'd love to see it! We
recommend
> each table to have a visual poster-board style presentation,
perhaps
> food from the culture, and preferably a simple activity (example:
When
> Lynne did Ancient Greece, the birthplace of democracy, the kids
voted
> for their favorite type of olive). Also, if you have a small stamp
or
> sticker or an icon you can draw in your visitor's passports, that
would
> be great! To sign up or if you have any questions, email Kari at
> princessmuhmah@...
>
> Happy Homeschooling!
