Upcoming Math Contests from NA&T

You are receiving the message as part of MathMail, a mailing list for

USAMTS, MathCounts, NA&T, etc. If you know of someone else who might

Dear Math Enthusiast,

Our third and fourth competitions of the year, the 2007 Ciphering
Time Trials and 2008 Four-by-Four Competition, will take place on
Thursday, December 13th and Thursday, January 31st. The latter test
consists of ten rounds in which teams of four students are presented
with four problems to answer in three minutes. This format emphasizes
students' abilities to assess their own level of expertise, because in
each round most teams will need to quickly decide which problems to
work and which to skip, weighing checking an existing answer against
attempting a problem they may not be able to solve in the time
interval. Problems in each round span a range of topics and
difficulties to provide both confidence and challenges to students of
all abilities. The Ciphering Time Trials is a very similar format,
except that in each of the ten rounds individuals are presented with
three problems to solve in three minutes.

Each of these contests has a registration fee of just fifty dollars,
which allows unlimited participation by students at your school.
Schools that have not competed in any of our contests before can
register for all three of our remaining contests this year (the
Ciphering Time Trials, the Four-by-Four Competition, and the
Collaborative Problem-Solving Contest) for just one-hundred dollars -
a thirty-three percent discount! Participants receive testing
materials approximately one week before the test date by both postal
and electronic mail, but schools whose registrations are received
within two weeks of the test date will receive materials by e-mail
only.

Register online for any of these competitions at
