1. HOME SCHOOL ACCESS TO ABQ BIOPARK SIMPLIFIED!
Great news – the BioPark, a favorite field trip destination for home school families, will no longer require (or worse, keep on file) evidence of a home school’s state notification or confirmation of the home school. See the 2007-2008 Winter newsletter (due in homes in early January) for complete details.
2. ALBUQUERQUE AREA—New Mexico is a travelin’ state—many families drive miles for certain shopping, medical, dental, and family connections. If the drive to Albuquerque is on your To Do List often, consider joining the Educational Resource Center’s elist. The ERC sends out information on Albuquerque area events, discounts, classes, bees, etc. We are home educators. We can make an educational outing out of everything! To join, email erc@cape-nm.org.
3. OUTSIDE THE ALBUQUERQUE AREA there are also great opportunities. For example: scientists are teaching Apologia science in Los Alamos, the Las Vegas support group gets group skiing rates at Angel Fire, etc.
CAPE leadership has been discussing either adding statewide events to the CAPE alerts or creating a separate events list. Input is welcome as the pros and cons are considered.
4. ARMY'S FREE VIRTUAL SCIENCE FAIR
Have you ever heard of eCYBERMISSION, the Army's free virtual science fair for students in grades six through nine? Home school students are welcome! Through this program, the Army encourages students to explore real-world applications of science, math, and technology. It helps them learn valuable teamwork skills, fosters interest in the fields of science and math, and awards more than $1 million in U.S. EE Savings Bonds annually to students on winning teams. The registration deadline is January 11th. Contact Olivia Willard, eCYBERMISSION Enrollment, 1-866-GO-CYBER (toll free) www.ecybermission.com, olivia.willard@ecybermission.com for more information.
