Hello friends of Sol Arts!

We have an important announcement for our loyal patrons and friends. We are excited (and wistful) to announce that we will be closing our performance space at 712 Central SE at the end of December. After three and a half years at the EDO location, the members of Sol Arts have decided to focus on our original purpose - artistic creation - and to take a one year sabbatical from the daily operations and maintenance of an arts center.
Plans are in full swing for our 2008 season - in which we will lease space from the plethora of venues now available in Albuquerque - and include new work from the recently created Sol Artists ensemble, and the long-awaited premiere of VIXIN by Sol Arts founder and UNM Theatre professor Kristen Loree.

Founded in January 2002, Sol Arts spent its first two and half years producing and creating arts events all over Albuquerque at such diverse venues at The Guild Cinema, Ou'Ch Yonda Performance Space, Winnings Coffee House, even the parking lot of 500 2nd Street - some of you may remember the Wise Fool Circus looming over the Coal Avenue bridge, our very first production. In June 2004, we moved into the space at 712 Central SE and completely renovated the former candle factory into a 64 seat black box theatre and gallery. Our first full-length production, Clare Booth's The Women in September 2004 was a rousing success, and we have continued to receive acclaim for our full slate of original and classic plays since that time. In 2005, we opened our doors to the local music scene as well, and launched an all-ages music series that has continued to be very popular with music lovers of all genres, presenting a wide variety of bands from the local and national scene.

Sol Arts is already making plans for the opening of a new arts space in late 2008/early 2009, but in the meantime we need to streamline our inventory. Towards that purpose, we will be holding a giant Moving Sale on Saturday, December 22nd at 11 am. We will be selling furniture, props, costumes, art and electronics. Whatever doesn't sell will be donated to charity and to other non-profit theatres in town.

Also, don't forget we have one more show still happening at the Sol Arts performance space - "Boy Gets Girl" by Rebecca Gilman, directed by Kathryn Gourley (details below.) It is a great show, and runs until December 16th! Please take this opportunity to come down and see one last production in our soon-to-be former home!
Sol Arts continues to "Maintain the Glow!" and is excited to be moving on to new galaxies! Come down on the 22nd and take home some of Sol Arts' history as we move boldly into an exciting new future!
Thank you, as always, for supporting Sol Arts and live performance in Albuquerque!

Sincerely,
Laira Morgan
President & Press Liaison
Sol Arts

Feast of Guadalupe Celebration and Concert

In Mexico, the Feast Day of Guadalupe commemorates the appearance of the Virgin of Guadalupe to the Aztec Juan Diego outside of Mexico City, in December of 1531.
