Albuquerque: First Friday Fractal Show, Nov 2!!

Hi everyone - it's been an exciting month in Fractal Land! We had a fantastic time at Balloon Fiesta, flying both fractal balloons 8 out of 9 days, with much beauty and grand adventure. If you were lucky, you might even have seen us among all those balloons...

And back down here on Earth, I've been doing all sorts of good things, including teaching the beauty of math and science through fractals to students at New Mexico Tech in Socorro, and the entire middle- and high school student body of Magdalena, NM. Also, I just got to present for the first time at the Public Academy for Performing Arts here in Albuquerque, a fine and creative institution. Then I opened the eyes and minds wide of the 3'd, 4'th and 5'th graders yesterday at Stapleton Elementary in Rio Rancho. And I graciously accepted a $9,100 grant from the Albuquerque Community Foundation at their annual luncheon this week, where I got to do a mini-fractal show for over 800 people from the philanthropic and non-profit communities. It was pretty exciting!

Speaking of exciting, I want to let you know that our next public show is coming up soon: It's First Friday Fractals, this Friday, November 2'nd at 6, 7, and 8 PM at the Planetarium in Albuquerque. As usual, it's a really good idea to buy your tickets ahead of time, which you can do through the link on our website, http://www.FractalFoundation.org I hope to see lots of you there this time. The shows continue to rock. (And I promise to play the extra-scary fractal zoom in honor of Dia de los Muertos and Hallowe'en.)

The grant we've received from Albuquerque Community Foundation will allow us to bring the experience of a First Friday Fractals show out into schools using a portable, inflatable dome, sharing the excitement and beauty of fractals with over a thousand students in Albuquerque. Yeay!!! I am still able to book more shows, so if you're a teacher or a parent and would like to invite us to your school, please contact me. This is a super-exciting opportunity! Thank you, Community Foundation!

And one final piece of great news. Soon Albuquerque will no longer be the only place in the world where you can see my dazzling fractal zooms. We're in the process of working out some deals with a few other planetariums to license these animated pieces, so that people all over the world can enjoy the beauty of fractals. I'll let you know all the details when everything is finalized - should be soon. These things are starting to spread, and it feels like we're really taking off. Maybe it is possible to make a living doing what I love, teaching Science, Math and Art...
