12/1 Saturday 10:00am to 3:00pm Children’s Holiday Magic Celebration
The magic of the holidays begins with a free day of family fun on Saturday, December 1 at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, 215 S. Tejon St. “We invite everyone to start the holiday at the Pioneers Museum, where the magic of the season comes alive,” said Carol Kennis, program coordinator for the Pioneers Museum. Throughout the day, free activities for children, including marionette demonstrations by well-known puppeteer David Simpich at 11:00, holiday ornament making, sing-a-longs and, of course, magic fill the historic museum. Doors to the Pioneers Museum open at 10 a.m. with a variety of activities designed specifically for children and their families. The Colorado Springs Show Choir will perform at 12:30 followed by local magician Professor Higgins at 1:15. Local celebrity Tom O’ Boyle will lead a holiday sing-a-long at 2:00. In addition, visitors will be able to see model trains by local railroaders Slim Rails, weaving and spinning demonstrations by the Pikes Peak Weavers Guild, and balloon animals by Gary Jones. Visitors will also be able to view the new exhibit of Simpich figurines. To cap the day, the Museum will remain open through the annual Parade of Lights, which passes the museum after 5:45. Kennis says she hopes parade goers will stop by for free hot chocolate and cookies. FREE
