Upcoming events at the Botanic Garden

We hope you'll mark your calendar and join us!

Take a stroll through the Rio Grande Botanic Garden on Wednesday, February 14th, and enjoy special Valentine's Day activities from 10:00am-2:00pm. Visit the Heritage Farm to make your own old-fashioned Valentines. You can also see a demonstration by members of the New Mexico Quilters' Association. On the second Wednesday of each month, these artisans work on their Botanic Garden quilt and other projects at the Heritage Farm house. From 1:00-3:00pm, you can cozy up with someone you love on an old-fashioned horse-drawn wagon ride (weather conditions allowing).

Later this month, celebrate the connections between animals, plants, and people at the Winter Wool Festival on Saturday, February 24 from 10:00am-2:00pm. At the Botanic Garden's Heritage Farm exhibit, visit our Navajo Churro sheep and lambs and learn about the process used to turn their wool into a warm sweater. In the farmhouse, watch as professional weavers demonstrate carding, spinning, weaving, and other fiber arts and you will have a chance to try out these activities for yourself. Discover the great variety of fiber-producing animals as you touch fleeces and yarns from alpacas, llamas, camels, rabbits, bison, and more. Visit the "Dye Discovery Station" to learn how plants are used to make natural dyes, and dye a piece of wool to take home.

Other special Winter Wool Festival activities:
*12:00-1:00pm – Tap your feet and sing along with Bruce and Friends Band as they play old-time, bluegrass, Celtic, country, and other energetic music.

*12:30am-2:00pm – Bundle up and take a ride on an old-fashioned wagon pulled by the Heritage Farm's Percheron horses.

Both events are included with admission. Please call 848-7180 for more information.
