Saturday, Aug. 4:
ANCIENT CORN DANCE TOUR…Over 1000 Native men, women, and children dance in full ceremonial costume under the sun in the plaza of the old adobe Santo Domingo Pueblo. This is the only place on earth where you will experience this ceremony of chanting, dancing and pounding of drums from sunrise to sunset. Pottery, silver/turquoise jewelry, crafts, and food available for purchase. This religious observance requires conservative dress. No photos, sketching, videotaping or alcohol permitted. Roundtrip transportation. Meet in Lobby at 8 am Return around 1 pm $45/person

10-Noon Class with Parri! From the Basics to the Secrets of the Sword. Learn from the Top U. S. Double Sword Performer! Some swords will be available to use or bring some item to balance on your head.

1-3 pm Class with Fahtiem! Explore the effective use of body articulation and how to apply it to music.

1-3 pm Class with Susu (of Cairo Cat CD fame!) Learn all the parts to a Drum Solo. Thythms & Techniques for the dancer. All levels welcome. Bring drums, zils, or ambourines. Susu will share the Spirit of Rhythms with you. (Adv. Level drummers – Private lessons available for scheduling.)

uABOUT THE TEACHERS:


Amaya (New Mexico) Born in Crystal City, Texas, the “Spinach Capital of the World” (complete with a downtown statue of Popeye!), Amaya has traveled extensively throughout nineteen different countries teaching and performing. She produces the annual “International Shake & Bake Dance Festival,” “Oriental Potpourri” in New Mexico. Instructional video production, teaching local dance and aerobics classes, all keep Amaya’s Dance Productions busy on a daily level when she is not traveling.

Fahtiem (California) has performed throughout the United States, including engagements on cruise ships and performances on cable and network TV. Her love and commitment to the dance is evident in her efforts to motivate each dancer to their individual best. It has been said that "Fahtiem truly has a master's touch. The simplest movement is presented with incredible focused energy. The quality of Fahtiem's movements is what we all strive for." Arab American Television, and was an instructor and was interviewed with her class on Arabic MTV. She was featured on Fox Cable "The X Show" and "Talk Soup" where she was interviewed and gave demonstrations as a belly dance expert. expert. www.fahtiem.com

Susu (California) Drumming all her life, Susu is nationally known for her magical hands and sense of rhythm. Known for her Cairo Cat Cd fame, her drum solo brought the house down at Ya Hallah (Dallas, TX) last year! This top percussionist has crossed paths with Fat Chance (video), Suhaila Salimpour (cd), and is currently working with Vince Delgado Quintet/Sababa Band, an Arabic Jazz Fusion group.

Ava Fleming (AZ) Bellydancer of the Universe 2004, is a classically trained Middle Eastern Dancer, performer, instructor and choreographer. She teaches seminars around the nation as well as group classes in Phoenix and Tempe, Arizona. Ava’s lighthearted approach to teaching creates a fun, comfortable and challenging learning environment for all levels. Ava adopted a multi level approach to breaking down movement making it easy for beginners to understand while challenging advanced dancers and giving them a higher level of comprehension. Director and choreographer for the Black Opal Dance Company, as well as an accomplished soloist, Ava is focused on presenting powerfully elegant Classical and Contemporary Raks Sharqi to the general public. www.avafleming.com

Parri (CA) A professional performer, teacher, and choreographer in the art of Oriental dance, American Cabaret, Persian dance, and Props. She is the producer of „Scimitar Peace ˆ Double Blade Pleasures‰, an instructional double sword DVD. Parri continuously studies Arabic dance, she has studied with over 44 national and international master instructors. Parri's philosophy states, "Creativity flourishes with continuous learning." As a professional dancer for 14years Parri has captivated audiences with her many styles of dance, which are as authentic, unique and creative as she. Her performances have been enjoyed in restaurants in Northern and Southern California. She has danced for many corporations, non-profit organizations, schools from K-12, universities, and throughout the dance community. www.parri.net.
