Brown Bag Lecture on Composting at the Garden. top Thursday, November 1 and Saturday, November 3. 12:45 to 1:30pm. Presenter: Caroline Barela-Burgess, Master Gardener and 'compost enthusiast'
Do you have limp lettuce or too-ripe tomatoes? Endless leaves and gobs of grass clippings? Put that kitchen and yard waste to work! Join Caroline Barela-Burgess this month to discover how to turn green waste into a nutrient-rich resource by composting. Caroline will discuss how anyone can compost at home, explain what is happening inside a compost pile, demonstrate how to create a simple worm bin and help troubleshoot common problems. Caroline's family has been composting for decades as part of their business, Barela Landscaping Materials, started by her grandfather over fifty years ago. They use a unique recipe to recycle sawdust, grass clilppings, leaves and manure into their soil conditioner. At home, Caroline has composted in many ways over the years, including using bins, a tumbler and, of course, worms!
