Albuquerque: NM Museum of Natural History & Science Homeschool Museum Programs

Greetings Home School Families,

There are some events this fall at the museum that I thought would be of interest to you.

First, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science is celebrating the International Polar year with Polar Palooza. A number of events are scheduled for the month of October (a full calendar of these polar related events is available at NMnaturalhistory.org)including the Polar Palooza Homeschool Family Day Tuesday October 23rd from 1 to 4 pm, which includes a special presentation by polar scientists at 2pm.

Second we are offering "Homeschoolin' on the Home Range Ecology Day" at the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center. Any age participants are welcome, but activities will be aimed at 8 to 12 year olds. For more information or to register, contact Susan Davis at Susan.davis@state.nm.us.

Finally, we are seeking teens aged 14 to 18 to participate in planning a youth-led teen science cafe program. There is an organizational meeting set for Tuesday September 4th at 4:30pm here at the museum. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Because of the overwhelming amount of interest in last year's schedule, which is still listed on the web, we are reconsidering our decision to not offer future home school classes. Although it is too late to plan for fall, we are looking at a winter session that would start after the first of January. The target group would be upper elementary and subjects could include weather, solar system or ecology. Please keep monitoring the website; it will be updated as soon as are plans complete. I will also send a notice via this mailing list. Please feel free to pass this information along to anyone who might find it of interest.

Thank you all for your interest in the Natural History Museum,

Linda Fey
