Albuquerque Area: Presidential Physical Fitness Award

We have a great opportunity to encourage our children's physical fitness by testing and awarding based on national standards in September. Sandy Warfield (PE Teacher at LBJ Mid School) has volunteered to practice, test

and award homeschool kids and Sandia Prep High School as agreed to host the event.

The Presidential Physical Fitness Award has established percentile benchmarks for children ages 6-17 in five different test areas:
curl-ups or partial curl-ups,
shuttle run,
pull-ups or right angle push-ups
V-sit or sit and reach
endurance run/walk

Students who score at or above the 85%ile rank will receive the Presidential
Physical Fitness Award.
Students who score above the 50%ile rank will receive the National Physical
Fitness Award.
Students who score below the 50%ile rank will receive the Participation
Physical Fitness Award.

This test result can be referenced on any applications to different experiences including things like Space Camp.

The event will happen on two Fridays from 4-6 pm. September 7 and 21.
On 9/7/07, we will practice the first four events (teaching the kids HOW to
do the test) and end by testing the 1 mile run/walk. You will want to start
walking/running with your kids now to build up their endurance. :)
9/21/07, will include the testing for the other four events and then awards.
To both evenings, the children should wear comfortable work out clothes
(tshirt and shorts) and athletic shoes (no flipflops or sandals- tennis
shoes with socks, please)! They should bring their own water bottle as well.
