"Can you homeschool legally?"
On the second day of homeschool my neighbor said to

On the fourth day of home school my neighbor said to
me,
"What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they
socialized, can you
homeschool legally?"
On the fifth day of home school my neighbor said to
me, "YOU ARE SO STRANGE! What about P.E., do you give
them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool
legally?"
On the Sixth day of home school my neighbor said to
me, "How long will you homeschool, YOU 'RE SO STRANGE,

socialized, can you homeschool legally?"
On the seventh day of home school my neighbor said to
me, "Look at what they're missing, how long will you
homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E., do
you give them tests, are they socialized, do you
homeschool legally?"
On the eighth day of home school my neighbor said to
me, "Why do you do this, look at what they're missing,
how long will you home school, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, hat
about P.E. do you give them tests, are they
socialized, do you homeschool legally?"
On the ninth day of home school my neighbor said to
me,
"They'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at
what they're missing, how long will you home school,
YOU 'RE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E., do you give them
tests, are they socialized, do you homeschool

they'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at
what they're missing, how long will you homeschool,
YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E. do you give them

you do this, look at what they're missing, how long
will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, What about
P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can

On the thirteenth day of homeschool I thoughtfully
replied:
"They can go to college, yes you can do this, and they
can graduate, we don't need the prom, we do it cuz we
like it, they aren't missing anything, we'll
homeschool forever, WE'RE NOT STRANGE!, We give them
P.E., life it self's a test, they are socialized, AND

LEGALLY!
On the fourteenth day of homeschool my neighbor said
to me, "How can I get started, why didn't you tell me,

Summer 08, Oklahoma City University Music Programs
Dear Friend,
Oklahoma City University is getting ready to give you a summer you won't
forget! We're already hard at work planning the 2008 OCU Summer Programs and
have some exciting news!
We are pleased to announce that the High School Musical Theater Program will
be presenting a fully staged production of Stephen Sondheim's "Sweeney
Todd." This amazing musical, considered by many to be one of the best
musicals ever written, will be seen on movie screens this holiday season
starring Johnny Depp. Dr. David Herendeen, Director of OCU's Opera & Musical
Theater Department, will direct an innovative and groundbreaking production.
The 2008 High School Theater Institute will present Shakespeare's classic,
"A Midsummer Night's Dream." This comedy, which features lovers, liars, and
fairies, will be presented in a fantastic new setting.
We are still in process of securing rights for our Junior High Musical
Theater show and hope to have it announced in December.
Each summer, hundreds of students from around the nation are selected to
participate in our renowned summer intensives, which Backstage Magazine has
selected as one of the nation's top summer training programs.
Auditions are required for admission. For audition requirements, please
visit: http://www.okcu.edu/music/academy/summerprg.aspx. DVD auditions will
be accepted beginning December 1st. Students who submit an audition by
February 10th (and are accepted) will receive 10% off their summer tuition.
Scholarships are available for those selected for their state's Music
Educator's "All-State" program and those recognized by the NFAA Arts Awards.
Financial aid consideration is also available. Early application is advised
as admission is on a first-applied basis.
Summer program brochures will be sent in January. If you have not already
requested a brochure and would like to receive one, please visit:
http://www.okcu.edu/music/academy/request.aspx.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at this email
address or at (405) 208-5410. You may also reach us for instant assistance

=============================================
How Is eFantasmic Different?
The reading curriculum is based on Whole Book Learning. This means it's designed for your child to be able to learn the major ideas and concepts the book is trying to teach. It isn't just reading comprehension or vocabulary words. It goes deeper into the ideas and concepts that are being taught. This curriculum is based on the latest brain science to not only help your child learn, but to retain those memories. You will see some things called Charts of Comprehension. These are designed to help your child actually remember those concepts in their long term memory, so full learning takes place!
The math curriculum is designed to be targeted. If your child has problems getting an idea or concept, go right to the math concept packet where they are having trouble. You get 50 worksheets per packet. This way you have PLENTY of worksheets to help your child understand and work out the concepts with, then lots left over to use during the rest of the year to keep reinforcing what they learned.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s finally come online! I know they’ve been working on it for a long time, and it was a HUGE project.
eFantasmic.com has loaded up over 130 different curriculum, and more is coming. It’s all in electronic format, so you can instantly download it.
My son was doing some the other day (as soon as the first ones were available), and it’s a really neat concept. I’m going to use almost all of them.
Here’s the best part, it’s all based on library materials! So you don’t need to buy expensive text books, it’s all materials you can get your hands on quickly.
Plus, it’s designed for us homeschoolers! What this means to you is that all the curriculum you do you with your child (including discussions) is all documented, so you have proof of everything you do.
Here’s the link to go take a look: www.eFantasmic.com
Now here’s the deal.
They are offering a subscription to the entire collection of curriculum, making it less than $1 per curriculum. Now that’s a price that appeals to me.
But it’s a limited offer. They are offering 50% OFF, that’s what makes it less than $1 per curriculum. And this offer is only while they are still loading curriculum onto the site. Once the first batch is finished uploading, the price goes back to double.
It covers lots of stuff from history, science, chemistry, biology, fun stuff, you name... it’s there. All the DK EyeWitness books are there, lots of National Geographic, Early Readers, Magic School Bus, Andrew Lost, Magic Tree House, Dear America History series, American Girl, and even Goosebumps and some other fun ones.
Here is URL: Go and check it out. If there are several titles that you would want, then the subscription is definitely worth it!
Enjoy!
We Need Your Help!
Also, It’s not joke that to send out even this small email costs us several hundred dollars in bandwidth charges from our list service because this list has grown so large. And it’s truly hard to afford it. So please take a look at our sponsor at the bottom. It’s absolutely impossible without them. Even if you can’t use it, can you tell others, it would really, really help us out. Also, if you send this message to others, or post it (please do), would you kindly post the entire message along with the sponsor info.
I promise this one is still available. I JUST ordered one myself just to be sure. So get on this one!

Webresource: Rocks, Minerals & Fossils for Kids.com
http://www.rocksmineralsandfossilsforkids.com Run and Sold by a homeschool kid and family, the same one that runs Westvon Publishing The Homeschool Shop
http://www.thehomeschoolshop.com/index.htm
We began to study rocks and minerals in our homeschool studies in 2003. Apparently, Jessy decided that she really liked this, and began her own collection. Maggie too, but well, Maggie collects hamsters, too, so she made a nice collection, but was ready to move on to weather studies! But not Jessy! She filled one box and then another. Soon, we were looking up links and going to rock shows and hunting around old quarries. She was bitten with the rock hound fever! We searched for good quality specimen kits but were sorely disappointed. Most were teeny little specimens, glued to a cheap cardboard with hardly any information and expensive! We began to purchase collections from old rock hounds that were done with their collections and then moved on to wholesale mineral purchases! Dragon Mountain Treasures was born.
Jessy began to assemble a great kit for kids to see and explore and experience the fun of rock collecting. Her kits have great specimens, individually bagged and identified. Easy to hold, big enough to examine with a magnifying glass up close to see crystaline structure. Easy to compare with other family specimens. A good, honest value.
So take a look and learn a
little bit about rocks
and minerals from a great kid.

Holiday Boxes for NM Iraq Troops in Iraq
Thanks to Teresa Lafler for finding this info:
FYI- The prepared boxes are at Walgreens, Applebees, Albertson's and Smith grocery store in Rio Rancho. You will see the bright yellow instruction flyer attached to the box with the Mailing label, Customs form and envelope. The box is only 11 x 8 1/2 x 5 1/2. And yes, anyone from NM can participate.
I typed up the instructions below for you in case someone has the time to make up more boxes and take them to designated areas listed above. Please call Janice for more info. on that 867-1139. They are helping the usual group in Placitas out by distrubuting 250 boxes for people to fill up. The goal was 400, but if they don't meet that amount they were told that they will go to the troops out on the field first.

A great stone lion guards the entrance to the new Egyptian exhibit at the Albuquerque Museum.
Built 3,400 years ago as part of a set that once guarded the temple of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, the lion sits relaxed, feet crossed, waiting to inspect a new generation of visitors from the Land of Enchantment.
It's a feature piece in the "Temples and Tombs" exhibit, on loan from the British Museum, which opens Sunday at 9 a.m.
"During his reign, Egypt had become a great empire that stretched from modern-day Iraq to modern-day Sudan," said Marcel Marée, an Egyptologist from the British Museum, pointing to a giant stone head that once sat on a statue of Amenhotep.
"These lions - this is one of a set of two - acted as guards," Marée said, refocusing on the lion. "On the base it mentions that Tutankhamun refurbished this monument for his forefather, but if you look closer you see that Tutankhamun's name has been erased."
King Tut, as he's been affectionately called, was associated with a negative time in Egyptian history because his father had outlawed all but one god.
Tutankhamun restored all the gods and temples, but he was still associated with his father's ideas, and his name has been wiped out of most records, Marée said.
The Albuquerque Museum has been working for more than three years to bring this traveling exhibit to the Duke City, and visitors should not confuse it with the separate "Excavating Egypt" exhibit running through Jan. 6 at the New Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe, said Connor O'Laughlin, a spokesman for the Albuquerque Museum.
"Their exhibit is more focused on smaller objects," O'Laughlin said. "Ours has giant stonework. These are major museum pieces."
The lion, for instance, weighs about 6,000 pounds, O'Laughlin said.
The exhibit, which runs through Feb. 10, cost $300,000 and was paid for by the Albuquerque Museum Foundation, O'Laughlin said.
It's the last stop for the pieces on a six-year, 15-city tour of the U.S. and Canada before they head back to England, Marée said.
Walking among the statues, which range from refrigerator sized to finger sized, Marée noted that the variation isn't as random as it appears.
"Statues get smaller the deeper you go into a tomb or temple," Marée said. "And only the priests were allowed in the deeper areas."
The exhibit's smallest statues would have been forbidden for the eyes of all but a few prominent Egyptians.
Another thing to look for is any piece from the dynasty of Ramses II, who reigned around 3,200 years ago.
Ramses had a nasty habit of stealing older art and reclaiming it as his own, Marée said, looking slightly peeved.
"He put his name on many statues that weren't his, and he destroyed the faces of many, which is really obnoxious for us Egyptologists," Marée said. "It makes it harder to date older statues."
Visitors can also see intricate jewelry, delicate inscriptions and evidence of the process Egyptian artists went through to create some of the massive stone works. In one area, artists' doodles of lion heads, birds and people are preserved on limestone chips called ostracons.
"The Egyptian artists didn't use papyrus when they were just trying their hand," Marée said. "Limestone flakes littered the desert and were used as notepads."
A few pages of the Book of the Dead line the back walls of the exhibit, with some history on how Egyptians viewed the afterlife.
At the end of a series of obstacles with passwords, demons to fight and gates to open, the dead Egyptian would find himself facing the lord of the underworld.
There, his heart would be weighed against a feather - an Egyptian symbol for truth - and if the weight balanced, it would mean the person could stay with the gods.
If it didn't balance, he'd be eaten by a nasty monster made up of several different animals, Marée said.
"Needless to say, they were quite afraid of that," Marée said.
