Join Albuquerque Home Learners this fall for a weekly art classes for children ages 6-10 on Wednesdays from 10-11*, beginning on August 15th, at Heights Community Center, located near UNM. Some months will have five weeks of classes, and due to holidays some will have three weeks of classes. Parents will need to remain with their children during the class**. Activities will also be provided for younger siblings***. AHL classes are open to all homeschoolers.

Our teacher is Cassandra Gordon-Harris, a member of the National Association of Women Artists. She said, “Children will have the opportunity to experience various media such as watercolor pencils, markers, painting (tempera), charcoal and chalk and mixed media. The children will be shown examples, parameters set and then allowed to develop the subject matter according to their level of creativity and ability. The children will also work with scissors and glue to increase small motor skills. All projects are designed for student success so that the children's confidence levels can increase with each project thereby enhancing the development of their skill and understanding. We will work on two projects at a time, so it will take the child at least 2 or more classes to finish. While the children work, information will be given about the media they are working in as reflected in art and culture.”

Visit the following link to view art work completed by some of the teacher’s previous students who ranged in age from about 6-9. The work at this link includes chalk drawings, charcoal, tempura paints, water color and felt tip. There are some fun creations to view!

The monthly fee will depend on the total number of students in the class. We need a minimum of 10 students to make this a go. The most it will cost per student, per month is $22.50. The maximum class size is 15 students. If we get 15 students, it will be only $15 per child, per month.

This is a great weekly opportunity for kids to develop their creativity without requiring you to purchase supplies or clean up a mess!

If you would like your child/ren to participate, please request an enrollment form by email at adagioacademy@comcast.net. Openings will be filled on a first come/first served basis.

*On many Wednesdays additional classes will be offered, free of charge-other than expenses for consumable materials, following art class. We have use of the building until 1:30, and we will be providing additional fun learning opportunities.

**Albuquerque Home Learners has a “No Drop-off Policy” for all classes and events. Parents are expected to remain with their children and to ensure that they and their children are supporting the teachers and/or guides by being attentive and polite. Where appropriate parents are also asked to assist children in activities and clean-up.

***Parents of younger siblings will be asked to take turns providing activities for the toddlers and preschoolers…playing games or doing any activities of your choosing.
