Albuquerque:Lego writing class

Tabbi, please post this for me. Thanks, Rebecca

Hi everybody

I am offering another writing class for boys. This class will be structured around creations the boys make with various building sets. Lego, Bionicle, K'nex, or similar sets are acceptable. The boys will create something at home with their own set, bring it to class to "Show-n-Tell" with classmates and then we will implement various techniques to write about their creation.

There will be an emphasis on basic writing skills, beginning with good sentence structure, paragraphs and idea expansion. We will talk about use of adjectives and adverbs to make the writing more interesting.

This class is designed for reluctant writers that struggle with handwriting, spelling, expression and other issues. The emphasis will be on the creative process and not the mechanics of handwriting or spelling. The idea is for the boys to have fun and discover that writing as a means of communication is rewarding. IT WILL BE EXPECTED THAT THEY WORK ON THEIR WRITING OUTSIDE OF CLASS TIME. Dictating to an adult or sibling, using the computer or other means of getting their thoughts on paper is acceptable and encouraged. But it will be imperative to the success of the class that they come the next week with something to read and share with the class as this is a highly interactive setting.

This class would be suitable for boys ages 10 and up with a focus on midschool-aged boys.

The class will be at my NE Height home near Juan Tabo and Comanche on Wed mornings from 10:30 to 12:00 on Oct 10, 17, 24 ,& 31. Cost for the 4 classes is $12.
