Albuquerque: Math Classes, Artithmetic-Adv Algebra in the N. Valley

The following math classes will be offered again by Mrs. Clark next fall. Please contact her at syc505@comcast.net or 897-0403 for more information. Classes will be held at her North Valley home from August 25th to May 13th with Christmas and Spring breaks. Fliers will be available at the NM Home School Community Fair 2008.

Arithmetic Skills
Typical Age: 10-12 years old; Material Fee: about $30; Day/Time: Mon 1:30 – 3:30
Description: This course is for students who want to be grounded and accurate in basic arithmetic skills (fractions, decimals, percents and problem solving) so they can successfully progress to higher math levels. No placement test is required. Example of class material is available.

Pre-Algebra/Pre-Geometry
Typical Age: 12-14 yrs old; Material Fee: about $40; Day/Time: Wed, 11:15 – 1:15
Description: This course is for students who pass the 22 problem Arithmetic skills test. After a review of arithmetic concepts, algebra topics will include rational numbers, multi-variable expressions, single variable equations & inequalities, functions and graphing. Geometry topics include basic theorems about lines, angles, triangles and circles. Basic statistics and probability will be covered. Examples of class material are available.

Elementary Algebra
Typical Age: 13-15 yrs old; Textbook: about $70; Day/Time: Mon 11:15 – 1:15
Description: This is a complete Algebra I course with emphasis on graphing and problem solving. Students interested in this class should pass the 22 problem Arithmetic skills test and the 20 problem Pre-Algebra skills test. Algebra topics include functions, integers, rational/irrational numbers, simultaneous equations, exponents, polynomials, fractions, factoring, square roots, quadratic equation, fractional equations and inequalities. Lessons will be supplemented with examples from ACT/SAT. Examples of class material are available.

Geometry
Typical Age: 14 yrs and up; Textbook: about $75; Day/Time: Wed 9:00 – 11:00
Description: This is a complete high school level geometry course that includes construction, logic and formal proofs. It is supplemented with examples from ACT/SAT. If you wish to assess your student’s Algebra skills prior to taking this class, there is a 20 problem Algebra Skills test available. Construction tools and a calculator with trigonometric functions are required.

Advanced Algebra
Typical Age: 14 yrs and up; Textbook: about $60; Day/Time: Mon 9:00 – 11:00
Description: This is the continuing course after Elementary Algebra. Students in this class should pass the 22 problem Arithmetic skills test, the 20 problem Pre-Algebra skills test and the 20 problem Algebra skills test. Scientific calculator required

Registration Fee: $50
Tuition: $40/month, payable from Aug 10 thru May 10
