Pajarito Literary Review, Moebius and Young Author's Reception - Each year, children from grade K-8 are invited to submit an original poem or short story for publication in the 14 th Annual Pajarito Literary Review. Students in grades 9-12 will submit stories and poems for the 2nd Annual Moebius. It is not a contest, rather the intent is to honor all efforts and include all submissions. It is a celebration of the creativity and individuality of our local youth. Students may submit their work for inclusion in the publications until March 30 th. Submissions must be 2 pages or less and only one entry per person, please. Forms for submission are available at the library. Email submissions are encouraged. Send to ysweb@lacnm.us
The Young Author's Reception will be held on Sunday afternoon April 29th . A teen coffeehouse will be Sunday afternoon May 6th.
Cookie chats - Cookie chats will continue on Mondays in preparation for Battle of the Books at the Mesa Public Library, but will change in White Rock to Friday afternoons on March 9 th and 16th from 3:30 to 4:30.
Battle of the Books - The Los Alamos Battle of the Books will take place on Friday, March 23rd from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Please call Youth Services at 662-8258 if you would like to participate in our local battle. Pizza and veggies will be served to all registered participants and T-shirts (thanks to Friends of Mesa Public Library) will be given to all registered participants. Teams will compete to win a spot at the State Battle of the Books held in Rio Rancho on April 21 st.
Speech Contest Help - Come to the library for help in finding a poem or short story appropriate for the serious or humorous speech contest categories. Once a selection is chosen, our teen homework helpers are happy to help students memorize the piece.
Homework Center - The homework center at Mesa Public Library in Los Alamos is still in full swing and our tutors are anxious to help with homework: reading, math, science or whatever is needed. Please come down to the Youth Services Department at the lower level at Mesa Public Library. Tutors are available Monday through Friday from 3:30-6:00. No reservations are necessary.
Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Workshop - KNME will be doing the workshop at the Mesa Public Library on Saturday, March 17 th from 10:30-12:30 in the upstairs meeting rooms.
WaL Wednesdays at the Library - March 7th we will show the movie Flushed Away , March 14th will be a paper crafts program, March 21 st will be DDR and March 28th will be artsy crafts.
Teens: Choosing a Major, Choosing a Career - Tom Cristofferson, a former LAHS counselor will present a program on Thursday, March 15 th at 7:00 p.m. This program is for both students and their parents and will cover how to help teenagers during the years from high school to the beginning of their careers.
White Rock Branch Library Renovation - From February 26th until April 16 th the WRBL is undergoing renovations and will have limited services at the temporary location in the White Rock Town Hall. Children's programs will continue as scheduled in the White Rock Activity Center next to the Town Hall.
Winter Reading Program - Both kids and adults can participate in the Winter Reading Program at both libraries and read books about Exploring Your World for prizes. Visit any service desk for details and to sign up.
Los Alamos Public Schools All School Art Show - Come to the Upstairs Gallery and the Youth Services Department to see the wonderful exhibits of art from all students from Kindergarten to High School.
