Resource/Field Trip?: Monterey Bay Aquarium-White Shark on Exhibit

Special Edition - August 2007
We Have a White Shark on Exhibit
For only the third time ever, we placed a young white shark in the Outer Bay exhibit on August 28. The shark—a male 4-foot, 9-inches and 67 ½ pounds—will remain in the exhibit as long as he's in good health and is small enough for us to return safely to the wild.

Tracking tags on the first two sharks recorded their movements back in the wild. Data from their tags, and those on other juveniles and adults, is expanding scientific understanding of white shark migrations. That’s information vital to efforts to protect these threatened predators.

You can meet the white shark in person when you visit, or try to spot him on our Outer Bay cam as he swims in the exhibit. The aquarium will be open until 8 p.m. this Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2. We’ll post regular online updates on how he’s doing.
