I’ve skied Crested Butte and it was great! However, please be aware that sometimes they have a free ski day at Crested Butte the last day of the season. It is the local custom for the college students to ski without clothes. The least expensive places to stay around Crested Butte are Gunnison (1/2 hour drive), Montrose (2 hr drive) or Salida (1 ½ hour drive).
