Writing Resource:On-line newspaper opportunity for teens

A mom from the Oak Meadow Yahoo group sent this in and I thought some of your mid-high schoolers might be interested:

Hi-

I thought I'd post this info about the on-line teen newspaper that my
son writes for. The Watcher was started 2 years ago by a former high
school English teacher and homeschool mom, her daughter, and a few
friends. It's published in Atlanta, but kids from all over the
country are welcome to join since all the work is done on-line. It
started as a homeschool publication but is now open to non-
homeschoolers as well. Kids are not required to commit to writing a
certain number of articles or to complete certain assignments, but
can write whenever they want and about whatever they want. There is
a separate closed Yahoo group (i.e., not open to the public) for
staff writers and their parents where the kids can discuss upcoming
issues, story ideas, etc. My son's really enjoyed writing for it and
seeing his work in print. It's a great way to sneak in extra writing
practice and he's even been able to publish some of his composition
assignments.

New Format. With this issue, we present our new format. What's new?
In addition to our transition to a completely online publication (no
more documents to open), TW is now in continuous publication. That
means we will no longer have monthly issues because we've adopted a
daily publication schedule. Although we will continue to send out a
monthly reminder to check the website, new articles will be published
as soon as available, so bookmark TW and check back often.

We're #2! That's right, The Watcher is two years old! In This Issue:
7 book reviews,2 editorials, 2 articles on education, 3 fieldtrips, 1
cartoon,3 artists featured, 3 articles on gaming, 2 essays, 2 film
reviews, 1 United Streaming video review, 1 survey, 3 submissions for
science and technology, 1 ongoing science experiment, 1 slide show, 1
zoo crew article & cute pet pics.

The Watcher is a non-profit, online newspaper written and published in
Atlanta, Georgia, for and by students. We have a staff of 14 student
writers.

The Watcher offers a free, monthly subscription reminder. Subscribers
will receive one email notice each month. This is an announcement-
