**BECAUSE of the tremendous success of this Intensive Pottery class and because many of you were unable to attend because the class filled up so quickly I have decided to offer one more opportunity to those who were unable to attend last weeks class. The next session of Intensive Pottery will start on Tuesday April 10th. The class will run from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The cost will be $85 per student, includes the clay and firing. There will be a glaze cost of 50 cents per pound of fired weight for each finished piece (the average cost is usually around 75 cents to a dollar per piece). The students will make 2 to 3 slab constructed pieces, at least one pinch pot, a tooth brush holder, a pencil or jewelry holder, a coil pot and make one piece on the potters wheel. To register for this class please email us at chefmichele2@earthlink.net as soon as possible. We will be able to take students from age 8 on up. The class will be limited to 12 students. If you want to call to discuss this class please call between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. at 495-8300
A special thanks to all those who participated in Art Jubilee's Spring Break Intensive pottery class this past week. We had a BLAST. The kids learned a lot of interesting techniques and created some great pottery pieces. They even had a go a working on a potters wheel. Everyone managed to make one thrown piece. WOW!!!! There were so many pieces finished that I actually am going to have to do two Bisque firings to get them all done. I will send out a notice by email and phone to let everyone know when they can start coming out to glaze all of their finished pieces.
Anyone that came to BOOKS BLOOM and completed a ceramics piece will be able to come and pick it up after Easter weekend. Everyone that attended the Spring Break Intensive pottery class will be able to call and set up an appointment to glaze their pieces after Easter weekend.
I also wanted to remind everyone that we have on-going art classes for all ages. Our current schedule includes the following: Every other Monday from 10:30 until noon Beginning Art for students 6 thru 8 years of age. This class will cover the following media; colored pencil drawing, pencil drawing, colored marker drawing, water colors, oil pastels, conte crayon drawing, ceramics and charcoal drawing. The students will also learn about portraiture drawing, animal drawing, landscapes, seascapes, perspective (1 and 2 point), basic color theory, basic shapes and forms, contour line, elements and principles of design, multimedia projects and much more.
On the alternate Mondays we have on-going Intermediate to Advanced Art for students age 9 and up. These classes include advanced portraiture, drawing horses, sculpture, acrylic painting, intermediate and advanced watercolor techniques, still life drawing and watercolors, advanced pottery, advanced perspective drawing (working with 3 and more vanishing points), intermediate printmaking and learning to draw people. The students will learn the basics of Art History.
These classes are on-going, meaning there is no actual beginning and or end point. Much like music lessons, as a student progresses they will learn more advanced techniques.
Additionally, EVERY Monday (not alternating) we have an on-going ceramics class. This class is designed to teach the basics of handbuilding with an introduction to wheel thrown pieces. Students will learn how to construct basic slab, pinch and coil forms and learn the more advanced methods of combining these basic techniques to create more complex and more creative pottery pieces. Students will learn how to create decorative ceramic tiles to construct wall murals and floor designs. They will learn the basics of clay chemistry and glazes. Students will also learn how to load and unload a bisque firing and a glaze firing. They will have the opportunity to create basic Raku pottery and glazes.
Very soon I will be releasing our 2007 Summer camp classes. These classes will run for one week (Monday through Friday) from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. with a 1/2 hour for lunch. MORE INFO TO FOLLOW SOON!
