KIDS COOK By popular request, Dotty has put together a series of classes designed for children, 10 years and older, who are really interested in learning cooking skills. Classes will focus on safety and cleanliness in the kitchen and learning basic techniques such as measuring, stirring, whisking, and grating. A variety of kitchen tools will be introduced. We will explore the effects of altitude on cooking and baking in Los Alamos. During each class the student will prepare a dish that will serve four to bring home for the family dinner. The beginning class will be held Wednesday, January 23, the second one Wednesday, February 20, and the third one Wednesday, March 19. Classes are scheduled for 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM.

January 23, WEDNESDAY, Kids Cook. This is an experiment and if you like it we will continue to develop these classes so that kids of middle school age can learn cooking skills. In this first class we will focus on safety and cleanliness in the kitchen, measuring, and some basic techniques like stirring, whisking, grating and shredding. We'll make macaroni and cheese, NOT from a box! Next month we'll tackle soup making. (Dotty, $15 + tax)

February 20, WEDNESDAY, Kids Cook - Soup Making. This is the second in the series of cooking classes for children. The class will focus on chopping, dicing, knife skills, seasoning, and making yummy use of leftovers. Each child will make enough soup to bring home for dinner, feeding a family of four. (Dotty Reilly, $15 + tax)
