The Seeker: The Dark is Rising --Out now--- Read the books by Susan Cooper http://www.seekthesigns.com/ I remember this series from my childhood and hope the movie is just as good!
The Golden Compass --Out Friday-- Read the books by Phillip Pullman, I realize the controversy in regards to these books but to each their own choices and this is a group for all homeschoolers regardless of their beliefs. Here is a link to Snopes on the controversy http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp and before you jump to criticize I would suggest first reading the books in question to be able to make a more thoughtful argument for or against this series. I did hear that the movie producers-true to hollywood fashion- did dumb down the movie and 'Americanize' it so that it could be more marketable-oh wait that is all movies out of hollywood..well lets just hope they are at least interesting to watch whether you have read them or not!
The Spiderwick Chronicles-- Out February 2008- http://www.spiderwickchronicles.com/ Read the books by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi --We just happened to pick up these books at the library before realizing a movie is coming out soon and cool as can be it has a girl who fences in the storyline!
Prince Caspian-- Out May 2008-- http://www.narniaweb.com/news.asp?id=1355&dl=14478175 Read the book/series Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis --Looks like another winner for Walden Media--great trailer!
I can not think of others I am missing but these are the big ones and I hope they stand up to the hype...I have yet to see The Seeker but mostly because I am cheap and wait for the dollar theater. Enjoy!
