If you've seen one great holiday opera, you've seen "Amahl." The Colorado Springs Conservatory will continue its tradition, presenting a free production of "Amahl and the Night Visitors," 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Pikes Peak Center, 190 S. Cascade Ave. (call 520-7469) and 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Ute Pass Cultural Center, 210 E. Midland Ave., Woodland Park (call 577-4556.)

Christmas Fine Art Themed Show,

White House Ornaments, through Dec. 31, Monument Branch Library, 1706 Lake Woodmoor Drive, free; 531-6333.

(Not low cost)

If you are thinking about going to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo for the Christmas lights I want to suggest another possibility. The Pueblo Zoo is a great smaller zoo that I really love – especially when my children were little. It's flat (MUCH easier for strollers and small legs), has a petting zoo and Pueblo is almost always 10 degrees warmer than Colorado Springs. The cost is pretty comparable (50¢ less per ticket in Pueblo but you have to factor in gas). Once you are to the exit for the CMZ Pueblo is only 40 minutes down the road. We've been to both zoos and enjoyed them both.
